Our Educators

Melany Gawaban

I’m from the Philippines. In my homeland, I served as a physics and chemistry teacher. Throughout my life, I've been deeply involved in working with children. I have my Early Childhood Education Level 3.

I derive genuine fulfillment from nurturing and guiding each child as they progress in various aspects of their development – socially, cognitively, motor skills, and emotionally.

My guiding principle is rooted in the belief that every child is unique, and they flourish at their own individual pace. Whispering Hills Daycare Society holds a special place in my heart, and I consider myself fortunate to collaborate with such devoted educators.

Beyond my passion for early childhood education, I have a love for travel, dance, and the art of creating things from scratch

Teaya Pichota

I’ve been working for WHDCS since September 2020. I have had the pleasure of working in all 3 center's. Currently I am working at the University site. My passion has always been for educating and working with children. I’ve always been committed towards to the children’s success. I am here to guide, support, and inspire the children to reach each milestone and goal. I currently have my level 2 in Early Learning & Child Care and am actively working towards my diploma in Early Childhood education. I have the Flight Framework course as well  Standard First aid.

My goal is to encourage socialization, fine and gross motor skills to support the children to build strong coordination skills. Gross motor skills play a huge role in the overall physical development of the children. Some examples would be tying their own shoes, zipping up their jackets and assembling puzzles. I value learning through play and am always encouraging learning opportunities!

Summer Uchytil

I work primarily at the WHPS Kinder/OSC site! I have been working with Whispering Hills Daycare Society since the Summer of 2021. I currently have my level 1 in early childhood education.

I enjoy creating a fun and safe environment for the children while they learn new things everyday. I also love teaching the children more about my Indigenous culture!

When I am not at work I enjoy being outside doing things such as hunting, fishing, camping, and also doing crafts, and spending time with my family!

Alicia Bigelow

I have been part of the Whispering Hills Daycare team since October 2021. Throughout my time here, I have achieved significant milestones in my career as an early learning child care educator. I obtained my Level One certification in this field and also completed the HSR fundamentals course, which led to my appointment as the Health and Safety Representative for the Society.  In addition to my educational achievements, I hold certifications in first aid and food sanitation and hygiene. Currently, I am fully dedicated to the Kinder/OSC program where I support as their Team Lead.

Jerrimay Ranara

Hi , I'm Jerrimay or you can call me Jerri. I have 2 kids and am thankful to have them here with me! I'm from the Philippines and I used to work in the food industry. I have been an educator within the Whispering Hills Daycare Society since the summer of 2023. I currently hold my level one in Early Childhood Education.

I was excited to work with kids because I am a kid at heart and love the opportunity to freely be myself in such a fun and safe environment.  I have always had a passion for working with kids and new that I wanted to work with children since I was young.

I love being able to take care of children and support them through their learning journeys. Right now you will see me primarily working at the University Program!

Marina Lassin

Kamusta (hello), I'm Marina Lassin, a proud native of the Philippines.

I take immense pleasure in being a part of the infant and toddler program. I have my Level 3 in Early Childhood Education.

Working with young children brings me great joy because they often engage in the most delightful and unexpected antics, which never fail to make me burst into laughter.

Witnessing their journey of learning and growth as they explore and interact with the world around them is truly rewarding. Outside of my work, I relish spending my free time fishing, camping, and boating with my family and friends during the summertime

Bri Lambert

Hi!

My name is Bri, and I am an educator here at WHDCS. You will most likely find me in the Rosebud Room hanging out with the three-year-olds! When I am not at work, I am at home with my son Rome and our dog Goose (y boy!)

I graduated from northern lakes college with my level two in Early Learning and Childcare. I love coming into work everyday and seeing all my tiny friends. I am so lucky to be able to call this my career. Some of our favourite activities to do would be painting (anything and absolutely everything), building forts, and going on nature walks

Emily Eskow

A little bit about myself. I first started my journey in childcare in 2022. I always said since I was a little girl that I would never work with children but then I found myself in a job working with children and I fell in love, when I found daycares I knew that this was what I wanted to do in life.
I have my level one in childcare and I plan to continue my education in childcare and start my level two within the next year.
I started working at Whispering Hills Day Care in May of 2023. I am currently the team lead for the infants aged 12-19 months at the University site. I love this center because I get to experience all of the special moments and milestones that come with the first few years of their life. I love watching the children discover their personalities. These children help me grow every single day and I am so thankful to be a part of their lives.

Brettney Pointer

Hi, I’m Brettney! I am a current Early Childhood Educator here at Whispering Hills Daycare Society. I first started to work with kids when I was twelve (basically a child myself!) by doing babysitting. Since then I’ve completed my Level 1 in early childhood and development and plan to work towards my level 2! (I’m also a certified health care aide!) When I’m not at work I’m almost always with my dog, Aspen. When the weather is nice we’re outside! Hanging around at the dog park or going to the lake. But if it’s cold out then I’ll be found bundled up inside reading or doing a craft of some kind.

Janine Karyll Tapispisan

Hi everyone! I'm Janine. I started working for WHDCS in July 2024. You'll be seeing me more often at the multiplex, working with children aged 3 and 4 but, I also spend some time at the university where I work with infants. I have my Level 1 certification and am looking forward to getting my level 2 soon.

I have always cared for children, including my siblings and cousins, back in the Philippines since I am the eldest child. It’s deeply fulfilling to witness their growth and development, and being involved in their journey brings me great joy. I always look forward to coming to work to engage with the kids and help them develop their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills. In my free time outside of work, I enjoy reading books, watching TV series or travelling.

Claire Gunan

I am grateful to have been a part of the Whispering Hills Daycare Society team since July 2024.

As an educator, I believe in fostering a nurturing and supportive environment where every child feels valued, respected, and encouraged to explore their full potential. My approach emphasizes the holistic development of each child(s) development-socially, cognitively, and physically- through play-based and inquiry- driven learning.

Alora Stengrim

Hello everyone,

I’m Alora, a Level 3 educator excited to be back at the multiplex program within WHDCS. For those I haven’t met yet, I previously worked here for over a year before exploring my passion for education in both French as a Second Language (FSL) Kindergarten and English classrooms at the elementary level. Returning to the Multiplex fills me with joy, as it allows me to immerse myself in the natural beauty of the Muskeg Creek trails, forests, ponds, and creeks alongside the children.

I believe in embodying the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, where children flourish as co-learners and co-researchers. Our surroundings offer endless possibilities for exploration and discovery, and I’m committed to nurturing a deep connection between the children and the natural world. I hold a firm belief that through genuine experiences in nature, children develop an appreciation for our environment, echoing a statement I heard at the start of my ECE Journey “What children don’t experience, they won’t appreciate, and what they don’t appreciate, we will lose.”

Throughout my journey in early childhood education, I have come to understand the importance of fostering a sense of belonging, respect, and empathy. I strive to scaffold curiosity, a sense of purpose, and the development of social-emotional skills, knowing that when children feel valued and equipped to engage positively, they become lifelong learners and empathetic members of society. My approach is rooted in care and understanding; I strive to meet children where they are, guiding them with positive strategies to navigate challenges and grow from a variety of situations.

Beyond the classroom, I am passionate about all things outdoors. Whether walking my dogs, camping, paddle boarding, dirt biking or snowboarding, I find joy in every adventure. I also enjoy baking, cooking, crocheting, reading, working out, and spending precious time with my family.

I am eager to embark on this journey together, exploring the wonders of the world alongside your children.

Warm regards,

Alora
